RAPID CITY, SD — In a proclamation today, Mayor Jason Salamun declared the start of the Volunteers of America diaper drive during diaper need awareness week, encouraging donations for Mommy’s Closet, a resource center and diaper bank which provides aid to parents.
“Diaper need is a real issue that affects one in two families in Rapid City and across the country. What diaper need is it’s a hidden issue where parents struggle to provide enough clean diapers to keep their babies clean, dry and healthy,” Said Salamun in support of the drive. “we really appreciate mommy’s closet out of Volunteers of America and as well as our city agencies and partners here that really keep this tradition alive. And what I love about this is it really highlights the generosity of our community, obviously, by bringing in diapers to our drop locations, including here at City Hall and others, but also just the cash donations, where Volunteers of America can get even more diapers”.
In his closing remarks, the mayor challenged rapid city residents “to step up and support this diaper drive and really for the good of the kids and the families in our community, because at the end of the day, that’s what it’s all about”.
