RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Pennington County jury found 29-year-old Matthew Hade guilty of aggravated assault (domestic violence) following a trial stemming from an incident that occurred in October 2024. At the time Hade committed this assault, he was on probation in Meade County after being convicted of rape.

The assault took place after Hade became enraged with his 19-year-old girlfriend when she confronted him about communicating with his ex-girlfriend. The victim testified that Hade punched her, threw a weight at her, and strangled her multiple times, causing her to nearly lose consciousness. Her emotional testimony was supported by additional evidence, including statements Hade made to law enforcement, visible signs of a struggle in the residence, and minor injuries she sustained.

“The victim showed incredible bravery in telling her story,” said Senior Deputy State’s Attorney Rachel Lindsay. “We are grateful to the jury for carefully listening to the evidence, holding this offender accountable, and serving our community.”

This case was prosecuted by Senior Deputy State’s Attorneys Rachel Lindsay and Olivia Siglin.
