RAPID CITY – An 18-year-old Rapid City man was arrested Tuesday morning following an assault on a train operator near the LaCrosse Street railroad crossing. He is scheduled for an initial court appearance today.
Rapid City Police Department officers were dispatched to the area at approximately 8:20 a.m. on May 14th after receiving a report of an unknown male assaulting the operator of a stopped train.
According to police, the suspect climbed onto the engine car and engaged in a confrontation with the operator. The operator reportedly fought back, pushing the suspect out of the locomotive. The suspect then fled on foot northbound.
Responding officers obtained a detailed description of the suspect and located a man matching that description in the 700 block of Anamosa Street. Witnesses at the scene positively identified the man as the individual responsible for the assault.
The suspect was identified as Jeremiah Olson, 18, of Rapid City. He was arrested and charged with Simple Assault, First Degree Burglary, and Underage Consumption of Alcohol. Olson is scheduled to make his initial court appearance at 10:00 a.m. today, May 15, 2025. He was subsequently transported to the Pennington County Jail.
