Lorraine Mae Quenzer was born May 29, 1951 the second of seven children to John and Velma (Westbrook) Quenzer in Pollock SD. She attended grade school there until the family moved to Nemo, SD and graduated from Deadwood High School. It was in Nemo, as a young girl that Lorraine met a boy, Tim Hagemann, who would pester and tease her until she agreed to finally be his girlfriend. Lorraine and Tim shared a deep love for one another as teens, proven in the many love letters they shared with each other while Tim was away working. On May 29, 1970 she became his wife and a legacy and love continued for 53 years. To this union two daughters were born, Cheryl and Katina. In their early years of marriage Lorraine, Tim and Cheryl spent time on the road while Tim worked construction. Katina came four years later and the family settled in Sturgis, SD for some 20 years. While living in Sturgis, Lorraine found her love of being a florist and selling Avon. She was a very talented florist designing flowers for both of her daughters’ weddings. Lorraine loved being the Avon lady. Her radiant personality, impeccable style, and love for people won her many sales awards and cherished friendships in her customers along the way.
In 1996, Lorraine and Tim moved to Belle Fourche SD to be closer to their first grandchild. It was here that Lorraine again found her calling working in the public when she went to work for Big D Oil. Lorraine’s friendly personality, dedication and long hard work allowed her to successfully manage a store for nearly 20 years where she was very well loved by her customers, employees, and community. A wonderful mother, she always made time to work and keep a spotless home and keep up with her two very active girls. She loved her girls very much and each had a very special place in her heart. Lorraine’s entire family was very important to her, always having the support and right words for whatever her younger siblings were going through. She was a really good big sister. Her true love and passion without a doubt was her grandchildren. Nana always had time for them. Taking them on vacations, attending games, plays, reading books, play doh, camping, tea parties when they were young, to watching all four of them grow into amazing adults. She doted on them and never missed an opportunity to talk about their successes and accomplishments. God blessed Lorraine with her first great grandchild in 2023, a baby girl who was her partner in crime, biggest fan and light of her life.
Lorraine always had strong faith in God. In the mid 80’s Lorraine began attending First Baptist Church in Sturgis. This was a turning point in her life as her strength in Christ grew and she shared this with her children. It was through that faith and the support of Al-Anon that Lorraine was able to help her husband Tim obtain sobriety. Her unwavering love and commitment to keeping her family together will forever be remembered. Over the past few years Lorraine suffered several illnesses and setbacks taking away her ability to walk and the freedom to live independently. She faced every one of them head on, remaining steadfast in her commitment to family and God. Lorraine was a true warrior. She fought every battle with a spirit of strength, determination, and courage. She never gave up. She pushed through every diagnosis determined to recover. Her body became just too tired to carry on. The last year and half since her husband’s passing have been the most difficult but Lorraine continued to live with her family, making amazing memories and teaching them all what true love, commitment and strength truly are. She will be missed so very much.
