STURGIS, S.D. – The Meade County Sheriff’s Office says they, along with the South Dakota Highway Patrol arrested a suspect after a chase that ended in the Black Hawk area Friday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office says the patrol was pursuing an individual in a Dodge Dakota on I-90, when the suspect exited the Interstate at Peaceful Pines, where Summerset law enforcement joined in to lay down spike strips and flatten the vehicles front tires.

The suspect was apprehended without incident near Black Hawk Elementary School.

Meade County Sheriff Pat West says the school was placed on secure status for a short time while the individual, who was not identified, was arrested and taken from the scene.

West says once again, there was great interagency cooperation to make sure the incident didn’t get out of hand and result in any injuries.

Friday’s chase remained under investigation.
