NEWELL, S.D. – The Annual Newell Labor Day Celebration that got its start in 1959, packs lots of events into three days and brings people to town from around the tri-state area. From an all school reunion to a fun run/walk, tractor pulls to a parade, and everything in between, there is something for all ages at the annual celebration, that runs August 28 – September 1, 2025.
And for rodeo and timed events, Newell is the place to be over Labor Day, says Newell Rodeo Queen Rachael Strandberg.
From quilt shows to touring the museum, the Whistlestop Market, to Ranch Rodeo and the Corgi race and Fireman’s Barbecue, there is something for everyone during Saturday events.
Sunday’s events begin with the J.D. Mutchler Memorial Team Roping. Strandberg describes it as something of a laid-back day where families can take in all the community offers over the Labor Day weekend.
On Monday, Labor Day, the fun starts bright and early and doesn’t stop until well into the evening.
