Rapid City Labor Day Closures Announced
RAPID CITY- City of Rapid City offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 1 in observance of the Labor Day holiday. The closure impacts several services in Rapid City and the Black Hills area, including the Rapid City Landfill, Rapid Transit System, and the Rapid City Public Library.
Due to the federal holiday, the City Council meeting is rescheduled from Monday to Tuesday, Sept. 2, at 6:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers.
Trash collection for Monday will be moved to Tuesday, with collections from Tuesday to Friday remaining on their regular schedule. Residents are advised to leave their bins out until collected.
The Rapid Transit System will not operate on the holiday. RapidRide and Dial-a-Ride services will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 2.
The Rapid City Public Library will be closed on both Sunday, Aug. 31, and Labor Day Monday. The Monument will also be closed on Labor Day.
Several recreational facilities in South Dakota will have modified hours. Jimmy Hilton Pool in Sioux Park is open through Saturday, Aug. 30. The Roosevelt Park Ice Arena will be open on Labor Day, with a public skate from 1:30-3:30 p.m. The Roosevelt Park Swim Center’s outdoor pool will remain open through Sept. 20, weather permitting, and will be open on Labor Day. The indoor facility is closed for maintenance until Tuesday, Sept. 2.
The Rapid City Airport will be operational, but administrative offices will be closed. Rapid City Police and Fire Departments will also be operating, though their administrative offices will be closed for the day.
