RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Niles, Illinois, man was sentenced Tuesday to 24 years in federal prison for sex trafficking and money laundering, according to an announcement from United States Attorney Alison J. Ramsdell. The sentencing of Daniel J. Kubica, also known as “Danny Haddreck,” 41, took place on May 30, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Karen E. Schreier.

Kubica was convicted of three counts of Sex Trafficking by Force, Fraud, or Coercion and one count of Money Laundering. Following his prison sentence, he will serve five years of supervised release and was ordered to pay $400 in special assessments to the Federal Crime Victims Fund.

A federal grand jury indicted Kubica in March 2023, and he pleaded guilty on February 28, 2025.

Authorities stated that beginning no later than April 2021, Kubica orchestrated and maintained an illegal sex trafficking operation involving multiple women in and around Rapid City. He recruited women for sex acts in exchange for money, which he used to support his fentanyl addiction. Kubica employed various methods of coercion and force, including physical and sexual assaults, and threats of further violence to keep women in the trafficking ring. He also provided money, drugs, and alcohol to a victim with known addictions to maintain her involvement, and threatened to kill a victim and her 14-year-old sister.

Between January 2022 and October 2023, Kubica utilized CashApp for financial transactions related to his operation, receiving payments from those who purchased sex or directly from the victims.

This case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative by the Department of Justice to combat child sexual exploitation. The investigation involved the U.S. Department of Homeland Security – Homeland Security Investigations, Box Elder Police Department, Rapid City Police Department, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, and the South Dakota Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Assistant U.S. Attorney Heather Knox prosecuted the case.

Kubica has been remanded to the custody of the U.S. Marshals Service.
