RAPID CITY, S.D. — A 77-year-old man from Hamilton, Illinois, died Monday afternoon in a single-vehicle motorcycle crash west of Hermosa, South Dakota. The accident occurred on SD Highway 36, approximately six miles west of Hermosa, a community located within the broader Rapid City area and near the Black Hills.
The South Dakota Highway Patrol reported that the crash happened at 3:21 p.m. on July 7, 2025, at mile marker 39 on SD Highway 36.
Preliminary information indicates that the driver of a 2020 Harley Davidson CVO was traveling westbound when he failed to negotiate a curve. The motorcycle entered the north ditch, struck a driveway approach, and rolled. The driver was separated from the motorcycle and sustained fatal injuries. Authorities noted the driver was not wearing a helmet.
