Agents conduct ‘worksite enforcement action’ at Manitou Equipment America and Global Polymer Industries
MADISON, S.D. – Days after Homeland Security Secretary and former Gov. Kristi Noem was in Madison, workers at two Lake County employment centers were taken into federal custody after a series of raids by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency known as ICE.
ICE agents conducted a “worksite enforcement action” at Manitou Equipment America and Global Polymer Industries in Madison Tuesday morning after ICE Homeland Security Investigations obtained information regarding illegal employment operations.
“Those arrested during the enforcement action at Manitou Equipment America and Global Polymer Industries have been presented for federal prosecution for violations of U.S. law or were placed into deportation proceedings,” an ICE spokesperson said in a statement provided to The Dakota Scout.
The spokesperson declined to share how many arrests were made or where individuals detained as part of the raids at Manitou Equipment America and Global Polymer Industries are being held.
The arrests come as part of ongoing efforts by President Donald Trump’s administration to secure the border and tighten U.S. immigration policy.
Speaking at Dakota State University’s graduation commencement over the weekend, Noem’s visit and her role overseeing the execution of the president’s immigration reform initiatives drew dozens of protesters.
