RAPID CITY, S.D. – Eastbound lanes of Interstate 90 near Rapid City are closed this morning following a multi-vehicle crash involving a semi-truck at Mile Marker 54, according to the Rapid City Police Department.
The collision, which involved a semi-truck and at least one other vehicle, has resulted in traffic being significantly impacted just east of the city limits in the Black Hills area of South Dakota.
Initial reports from the scene indicate the semi-truck is in the ditch, and a white pickup truck is situated in the center median. This placement suggests a severe incident involving multiple vehicles and has necessitated the closure of the eastbound lanes for investigation and cleanup.
Westbound traffic on I-90 is currently being diverted. Multiple public safety agencies are on site, and the Rapid City Police Department is urging motorists to find an alternate route and avoid the area until further notice. Delays are expected for traffic moving through western South Dakota.
No immediate information regarding injuries or the cause of the crash was available at the time of this report. The South Dakota Highway Patrol is typically the lead agency investigating collisions on the Interstate.
