STURGIS, S.D. – It has been a very windy Friday across the area, with hurricane-force wind gusts being reported across the western South Dakota plains.
The National Weather Service says some of the highest wind gusts reported include 79 mph just east of Philip in Haakon County, 74 mph west of Cottonwood in Jackson County, 72 mph at Buffalo in Harding County and 69 mph at the Rapid City airport.
There have been some damage reports filtering in from the high wind.
In Sturgis, a large tree branch came down on top of a parked vehicle and in Rapid City, there have been reports of street sign damage and large branches down as well.
There is a high wind warning in effect for most of the area until Friday evening.
