UPDATE AT 9PM – GUNSHOTS CALL UPDATE: During the ongoing investigation into this afternoon’s gunshots call, police developed information that the suspect was barricaded inside a residence in the 1000 block of Willsie Avenue. The Pennington County/Rapid City Special Response Team responded to the location in order to peacefully resolve the situation. Law enforcement made entry to the residence and were able to safely take suspect into custody. The Special Response Team will be working to clear the area, while officers remain on scene as the investigation into the shooting incident continues.
Rapid City, SD — At around 3:30 p.m. on April 9th, police were dispatched to 25 Knollwood Drive for a report of gunshots being fired at the apartment building. On arrival, police located several shell casings in the parking lot. Police have recieved no reports of injuries injuries as a result of the incident.
A large number of law enforcement resources have responded to the area in an effort to search for those responsible. The involved suspect vehicle has been located unoccupied nearby and police are currently working to investigate the incident further. Anyone with any information about the incident should contact police immediately at 605-394-4131. An anonymous tip can also be submitted by texting the letters ‘RCPD’ and the information to 847411.
This is an incredibly dangerous behavior which, thankfully, has not resulted in any reports of injuries. All appropriate law enforcement resources are currently involved in investigating this shooting in an effort to hold those responsible accountable. We cannot and will not tolerate dangerous shooting incidents like this one in our community.
