RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) — Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers opened its first location in western South Dakota on Tuesday, June 10, at 916 Eglin St. in Rapid City. The new fast-casual restaurant is owned by franchisee Ron Oberg, who also operates 21 other Freddy’s locations across several states.

The 3,117-square-foot freestanding restaurant seats 104 guests, offers additional patio seating, and includes drive-thru service. Mobile ordering is also available through the Freddy’s app and website.

“We’re thrilled to bring the Freddy’s experience to this new community,” Oberg said. “Our commitment to serving high-quality, cooked-to-order food and providing exceptional hospitality is at the heart of everything we do, and we can’t wait to become a part of the neighborhood”.

Founded in 2002 in Wichita, Kansas, by brothers Bill and Randy Simon and their friend Scott Redler, Freddy’s is named after their father, Frederick L. “Freddy” Simon, a decorated World War II veteran. The menu features cooked-to-order steakburgers made with lean 100% ground beef, all-beef hot dogs, crispy shoestring fries, and frozen custard treats churned fresh throughout the day. Oberg recommends the Freddy’s Original Double steakburger and the Signature Turtle Sundae for first-time guests.

The Rapid City opening is part of Freddy’s broader expansion plans in South Dakota, with TR Hospitality Group, Oberg’s company, planning three restaurants in Rapid City and another in Sioux Falls. The chain currently operates over 550 restaurants in 36 U.S. states.
