PIERRE – A former South Dakota employee was sentenced for forging her own medical marijuana card, according to a press release from Attorney General Marty Jackley. Alexandra Feiner, 24, of Pierre, pleaded guilty to one felony count of Offering a False or Forged Instrument for Filing, Registering, or Recording.

Feiner was an employee of the South Dakota Department of Health when she falsified her own medical marijuana card in March 2024. She avoided the medical provider certification requirement and the fee.

The Hughes County Circuit Court sentenced her to two years in prison, all suspended, and placed her on probation for two years. She was also fined $500. The maximum sentence for the charge is two years in prison.

The South Dakota Division of Criminal Investigation conducted the investigation with cooperation from the State Department of Health. The case was prosecuted by the Attorney General’s Office.

“There are 14,000 state government employees in South Dakota and the overwhelming majority work hard for South Dakota,” Jackley said. “The behavior of one should not reflect poorly on the majority.”
