RAPID CITY, S.D. – Firefighters with the Rapid City Fire Department’s Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) unit completed their annual live fire training today at Fire Station 8, located at Rapid City Regional Airport.
Crews from Station 8, along with relief personnel and support from other stations, participated in the exercise. The training is a requirement by the Federal Aviation Administration for all airports that service commercial traffic to maintain their ARFF certification.
The specialized training focused on aircraft emergencies. Firefighters used a live fire prop to simulate an aircraft and practiced fire attack techniques in a realistic scenario.
