STURGIS, S.D. – In conjunction with this year’s Sturgis Arts Festival, the annual Sculpture Walk featured the unveiling of five new sculptures downtown.
The five new sculptures bring to 31 the total number of sculptures located around Sturgis.
The five new sculptures are:
‘Tight Curve’ – Jeff Satter began sculpting with stone and black walnut before shifting to stainless steel for durability and safety in his piece.

‘Pure Freedom’ – Ken Newman’s representational sculpture is a natural expression of his inner and outer experiences, with a strong drive to share his work in public places. He is a nationally recognized artist and National Sculpture Society member.

‘In The Mist’ – Ryan and Jim Pederson are the sculptures for this piece. The father and son duo collaborate on welded constructions using steel, brass and copper to create earthy, textured works.

‘Seated Couple’ – Artist Rick Haugen studied art and anthropology at Augustana University and later worked with sculptor Paul Granland before founding Bronze Age Art Casting in Sioux Falls.

‘Crash Landing’ – Done by Travis Sorenson channels his artistic passion into sculpture with this piece.

The Sturgis Artwalk is a culmination of years of collaboration, commissions, fundraising and individual efforts from local organizations and residents.
A map that shows where all sculptures are located in Sturgis is available at the Sturgis Welcome Center.
