STURGIS, S.D. – At the State A wrestling tournament, the Sturgis Scoopers advanced 12 wrestlers on to the quarterfinals, which will take place Thursday evening.
The Scoopers advanced Sully Sigman at 106, Tyler Baldwin at 113, Mason Hagen at 120, Tarver Zebroski at 126, Parker Graveman at 132, Ben Nadig at 138, Kalvin Ketelsen at 150, Cade Willnerd at 157, Joseph Nadig at 165, Zhoel Irion at 175, Kelson Dirk at 190 and Tyce Uherka at 285.
Sturgis is sitting second in the team points with 37.5 points. Aberdeen Central is first with 47 points. Harrisburg is third and Rapid City Stevens is in fourth place.
Aberdeen Central also advances a dozen wrestlers in to the quarterfinals. Harrisburg sends 10, Rapid city Stevens send 9 and Watertown has 8 advancing.
At the girls tournament, Scooper Annalee Pierson and Brooklyn Baird won their opening matches at 107 and 132 pounds respectively and advance to the quarterfinals.
Pierre leads the girls team standings with 32, Canton is second with 23.5 and Aberdeen Central is third with 20 points. Spearfish is sitting in fourth, advancing five wrestlers on to the quarterfinals.
At the State B Tournament, the Badlands Brawlers advance 5 wrestlers on to the quarterfinals with Custer advancing four.
The Brawlers of Philip/Wall/Kadoka Area moving on are Cannin Snyder at 106, Shay Weber at 113, Chance Wagner at 126, Jace Blasius at 157 and Kale Crowser at 175.
Custer advances Tyler Trant at 126, Tray Weiss at 132, Leighton Sander at 144 and Zayen LaPlaca at 285,
Harding County’s Lincoln Wickstrom advances at 138 and Gabe Reeve of St Thomas More heads to the quarterfinals at heavyweight.
Canton leads the team standings with 37 points and Winner is second with 26. The Brawlers are tied for fourth place with 21 points with Parkston.
