RAPID CITY, S.D. – A structure fire off Pine Grove Road brought a multi-agency response to the Black Hills on Tuesday afternoon. The Rockerville Volunteer Fire Department reported that units were dispatched shortly after 3 p.m. to a garage with living quarters and heavy smoke.

Upon arrival, firefighters were told that a dog and cat might be inside the building. A search of the structure found no animals. The Rockerville Volunteer Fire Department later confirmed the dog was not in the building, and the cat had escaped after neighbors opened a door.

After a quick initial knockdown of the fire, crews used a thermal imaging camera to locate additional fire in the attic space. They worked to extinguish all hot spots and check for any fire extension.

The Rockerville Volunteer Fire Department thanked several agencies that assisted in the response, including Rapid City Fire, Rapid City Ambulance, Hill City Fire, Battle Creek Fire, Whispering Pines Fire, Pennington County Fire Admin, Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, and Pennington County 911 Dispatch.

There were no injuries reported in the incident, and no pets were lost. The department also extended gratitude to the neighbors who noticed the smoke and called 911.
