TAKINI, S.D. – Fire crews have reached 50% containment on a fire burning on the Cheyenne River Indian Reservation.
The fire began as three separate blazes that merged together Tuesday and threatened the Takini School and Community.
Fire crews say there are heavy logs and trees burning in the draws and some have been rekindling with wind shifts. There was also a flare up reported Thursday afternoon and some additional crews were being brought in.
The wind shift this afternoon also brought ash into Takini and nearby homes. School at Takini was cancelled again today.
The fire was listed at 37,685 acres Thursday.
No structures have been lost and the fire’s cause remains under investigation.
