Fire crews quickly jump on fire in Boulder Canyon Sunday night

STURGIS, S.D. – Quick work by area firefighters kept a dangerous fire from getting away in high winds last night in Boulder Canyon.

The Granite Fire was reported just before 10:00 p.m. last night adjacent to the Boulder Canyon Country Club north of Highway 14A.

The fire burned in grass and timber and burned near homes and infrastructure at Boulder Canyon Country Club.

As of Monday morning, the fire is contained at a size of 1.2 acres.

Crews from Lead-Deadwood, Whitewood, Sturgis and Spearfish were among the agencies responding to the fire.

The fire’s cause was under investigation.
