Final reading of Spearfish 2026 appropriations ordinance scheduled for Sept. 22

SPEARFISH, S.D. – The Spearfish City Council will consider the final reading of the 2026 appropriations (budget) ordinance during a Special Session at 5:30 p.m. Monday, September 22.  

The proposed budget totals $58,504,415 in expenditures for the City’s 26 funds. The largest portion of the budgeted expenditures is planned to be spent on capital projects (34 percent), with personnel costs being 27 percent, operating costs at 24 percent, and other costs of 15 percent.  

Major capital projects include street, utility, and storm drainage improvements, software purchases, vehicles and large pieces of equipment, and completion of the airport terminal and the fire training center. For personnel costs, the budget includes the addition of seven full-time staff members in various departments across the City.
