RAPID CITY, S.D. – An Ellsworth active-duty airman accused of killing a Native American woman is now charged with first-degree premeditated murder.

Quinterius Chappelle allegedly murdered 21-year-old Sahela Sangrait of Box Elder last summer.

Chappelle made his first federal court appearance Monday, but a federal grand jury decided he should be charged with first-degree murder yesterday. Investigators confirmed Sangrait was killed on the Ellsworth Air Force Base. However, her body was discovered over 50 miles away close to the Pennington and Custer county line south of Hill City by a hiker on March 4th.

Sangrait was reported missing in August of last year.
