RAPID CITY, S.D. — Foggy conditions impacted commutes across Rapid City and parts of the Black Hills region Wednesday morning, leading to reduced visibility and slower traffic.

Motorists encountered dense patches of fog on various roadways, particularly in lower-lying areas and elevated sections of the Black Hills. Drivers were advised to exercise caution, decrease speeds, and use low-beam headlights.

The National Weather Service clarified the nature of the atmospheric phenomenon, stating, “There is no difference between fog and clouds other than altitude. Fog is defined as a visible moisture that begins at a height lower than 50 feet.”
