Deadly Head-On Collision in Meade County

MEADE COUNTY, S.D. – An 83-year-old Union Center woman died in a two-vehicle crash on Saturday, September 6, in a rural area of Meade County. The collision occurred around 4:45 p.m. on a gravel road 15 miles northwest of Union Center.

According to the South Dakota Highway Patrol, the woman was driving a 2020 Honda Civic eastbound on Chaffee Place. At the same time, a 19-year-old female from Enning, South Dakota, was driving a 2002 Ford F350 westbound on the same road. As both vehicles crested a hill, they collided head-on.

The driver of the Honda Civic was pronounced dead at the scene. Her name has not been released pending notification of family members. The driver of the Ford F350 sustained minor injuries.

The crash is under investigation by the South Dakota Highway Patrol, an agency of the South Dakota Department of Public Safety. The information released is preliminary. The Black Hills area, including Rapid City and surrounding Meade County, sees a high volume of traffic, and authorities remind drivers to be cautious on rural roads.
