Deadline Approaches For Registration To Vote; Absentee Voting Begins May 19

RAPID CITY, SD—City officials remind the public the deadline to register to vote in next month’s municipal election is Monday, May 19, the same day absentee voting is set to begin.

This year’s municipal election is Tuesday, June 3 with candidates running in three of the City’s five wards.

Individuals wishing to register to vote or to make changes in their registration can visit the Pennington County Auditor’s Office, 130 Kansas City Street. The deadline for registration to vote in the June 3 election is May 19.  Absentee voting also begins May 19, available Monday through Thursday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the county auditor’s office.  Early voting ends at 6 p.m. Monday, June 2.

In Ward one, Stephen Tamang and Lawrence ‘Larry’ Adams will vie for the open Council seat being vacated by incumbent Jesse Ham. In Ward four, incumbent Lance Lehmann will face a challenge from Eltina Three Stars.  In Ward five, incumbent Pat Roseland will be challenged by Callie Meyer.

Facing no opposition, incumbents Bill Evans (ward two) and Greg Strommen (ward three) will represent their respective wards for three-year terms.

The new City Council will be sworn in Tuesday, July 7.
