RAPID CITY, S.D. – The Pennington County Highway Department is set to host its second annual Road and Rescue Experience on Sept. 25. The event, formerly called Touch-A-Truck Family Night, will be from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the department’s offices at 3601 Cambell St. in Rapid City.
The free community event offers families a hands-on opportunity to see and explore equipment and vehicles used by the highway department and local emergency responders. Attendees can climb inside snowplows, graders, and other heavy machinery. Crews who operate the equipment will be present to talk with residents about the services that keep the county running.
Joe Miller, Pennington County Highway Superintendent, said events like this help bridge the gap between public service and the community. “It’s a great way for families to learn about the essential work our team does every day-and for kids to have a blast sitting in the driver’s seat of the very equipment they see on the roads,” Miller said.
Food trucks will be on site. The event showcases the department’s commitment to providing safe and reliable infrastructure throughout the Black Hills region of South Dakota.
