RAPID CITY, SD—Effective next Tuesday, the remote yard waste and recycling collection site adjacent to Fitzgerald Stadium will be closed to public access for a week for the upcoming Junior Legion State A Baseball Tournament.
The tournament is scheduled for July 31-August 3. The Fitzgerald Stadium remote disposal site will be closed beginning next Tuesday and scheduled to reopen for public access Monday, August 4. The removal dates include two days before the tournament to allow for removal of the containers and cleanup of the area. Crews work to get the containers returned to the site the day after the tournament to minimize any service gaps.
The City’s Traffic Operations will place signage near the Fitzgerald remote site to advise the public of the temporary closures. During the temporary closure of the Fitzgerald Stadium remote site, the public is advised to drop off materials at the West Boulevard North remote disposal site or schedule drop off of materials before or after the tournament periods.
In May, the City Council approved a request from the Rapid City Sports Commission to remove the yard waste and recycling containers from the Fitzgerald Stadium location during three tournament periods. It is the third consecutive season the containers have been removed to provide additional parking for the tournaments, which draw large audiences.
