SPEARFISH, S.D. — The sound of music and the warmth of community filled the United Methodist Church in Spearfish on Saturday afternoon as residents gathered for a heartfelt fundraiser in support of Artemis House. The event, hosted by Amy Rose, brought together survivors, supporters, and local artists for a day that reminded everyone what hope truly looks like.

Local musicians Janeen Larsen and Katrina Garnett as well as the Northern Hills String Quartet, performed throughout the day, their songs echoing through the church hall and adding a layer of tenderness to an already emotional afternoon. Each note seemed to carry a message of healing and resilience, offering comfort to those who have faced darkness and found the courage to stand again.

Laughter and light moments wove through the event as guests took part in a silent auction, creative contests, including a hat competition and centerpiece challenge. These small celebrations of creativity and connection reflected the heart of what Artemis House stands for: rebuilding joy and reclaiming strength after hardship.

But the room grew still when a survivor took the stage to share her story. Her voice, filled with emotion, carried the weight of years of pain and the triumph of survival. Her bravery left few dry eyes in the crowd. She stood as living proof of what support, compassion, and faith in humanity can restore.

For those who work with Artemis House, moments like this are a reminder of why their mission matters. The organization provides free and confidential services for victims of domestic and sexual violence in Butte, Harding, and Lawrence counties, offering safety, shelter, and the tools to rebuild.

Saturday’s event raised both funds and awareness, but more importantly, it reminded everyone in attendance that healing happens when a community stands together.

I must say that personally, the feeling in the room was clear, love wins when people choose to care.
