RAPID CITY, SD — In conjunction with the American Water Works Association and in recognition of Drinking Water Week in America, the City’s Water Division is hosting a photo contest centered around the theme ‘Water Sustains Us’.
The contest is open throughout the month of April. Residents are invited to submit photos showcasing the importance of drinking water to the Rapid City community and its residents.
Deadline to submit photos is 5 p.m. Wednesday, April 30. The top 25 submissions will be displayed in the City Hall lobby May 5-9 as part of national Drinking Water Week with an opportunity for the public to view and choose a ‘People’s Choice’ award. An overall first place prize will be selected as well as an internal City Employee ‘Best in Show’ selection.
Submission details, contest flyer, rules and the link to submit photos are available on the City Water Division’s page at www.rcgov.org . Winners will be announced Monday, May 12.
“The photo contest theme of ‘Water Sustains Us’ is an opportunity for the public to utilize their creativity and help bring awareness to the importance of drinking water in Rapid City,” said Lysann Zeller, Sustainability & Stewardship Program Development Manager for the City’s Public Works Department. “With this year’s theme, the focus is on how vital drinking water is in sustaining the lives of our residents. There are so many great opportunities to capture through photos how water impacts our lives and our community.”
Zeller said the photos will be used by the City’s Water Division for future publications and marketing materials, including the 2026 Drinking Water Report and website.
