
STURGIS, S.D. – The City of Sturgis is inviting residents to apply for appointment to a newly established Municipal Ordinance Advisory Committee, a standing advisory group tasked with reviewing and recommending improvements to the city’s municipal code.
The Sturgis City Council recently adopted a resolution creating the committee citing the importance of maintaining clear, effective, and up-to-date ordinances that reflect the needs and values of the Sturgis community.
The Ordinance Advisory Committee will be made up of Four City Council members appointed by the Mayor with Council approval, the City Attorney or a designated representative, and two Sturgis residents appointed by the Mayor with Council approval.
Their focus will be to evaluate existing ordinances, identify outdated or conflicting provisions, and propose revisions or new ordinances where needed.
The committee will serve for an initial term of one year and will meet as necessary to complete its work. City staff will provide administrative support to the committee and its subcommittees.

Applicants should be prepared to participate in collaborative discussions, review legal and policy documents, and consider input from a range of community perspectives.
