RAPID CITY, SD—Rapid City’s Legal and Finance Committee this Wednesday will consider a measure brought forth by City staff to voluntarily annex over 1,200 acres of area near Rapid City Regional Airport.
The measure is likely to move forward to the August 4 meeting of the Rapid City Council.
Rapid City staff have been working with property owners to secure a voluntary annexation of approximately 1,250 acres located between Ennen Drive and Radar Hill Road.
“This annexation will allow the City to guide growth in a way that leverages the recent investments made to the Rapid City Municipal Airport and better protect the underlying water main infrastructure within the annexation area,” said Rapid City Planning Projects Division Manager Marlo Kapsa.
The City’s Legal and Finance Committee will consider the three associated annexation agreements at this Wednesday’s meeting, scheduled for 12:30 p.m. in Council Chambers of City Hall, followed by full consideration by the City Council expected at the August 4 meeting. If approved, the annexation petitions and accompanying rezone requests will go before the Planning Commission for consideration and recommendation on August 21 followed by the Legal & Finance Committee on August 27, and preliminary/final reviews by the City Council on September 2 and 15.
