RAPID CITY, S.D. – The 80th Central States Fair is open for business in Rapid City with the midway lighting up the sky, the tantalizing smells of fair food and events and entertainment ranging from rap to rodeo. Running August 15-23, 2025, the nine-day fair hosts thousands of people for a last hurrah before summer end and school begins.

Central States Fair General Manager Ron Jeffries says the secret to a fair that appeals to a broad audience are people working behind the scenes providing input and expertise.

The fair will feature performances by Lil Jon, Lee Brice, and Tanya Tucker as part of the Black Hills Energy Concert Series. Monday, August 18 is Ag Appreciation, Tuesday, August 19 is Military Appreciation and Wednesday, August 20 is First Responders Appreciation. New this year is the Sip & Saddle…A Cowboy’s Guide To Wine Tasting, August 18th through August 20.

Known for its livestock presentations and open class competitions, Jeffries says this years line-up is no exception. There is an Ag Appreciation Recognition program on August 18, and the South Dakota State Mutton Bustin’ Championship. Open classes in sheep, beef, goats and swine lead the first weekend and an AQHA Breeders Showcase Parade is a feature during the last weekend.
