RAPID CITY, S.D.— A California man was arrested Saturday in connection with a hit-and-run crash Friday night that damaged an electrical box and caused a widespread power outage in southern Rapid City.

Police were called to the intersection of Pendleton Drive and Culvert Street shortly after 9 p.m. Friday following reports of a pickup truck hitting an electrical box and then leaving the scene. Witness information allowed officers to identify the truck and its owner.

Authorities made contact with the owner and determined that Bronson Byrd, 36, of San Juan Capo, California, was the driver at the time of the crash. Byrd was located by law enforcement Saturday afternoon. Following an interview with detectives, he was taken into custody for leaving the scene of an accident.

Byrd was subsequently transported to the Pennington County Jail. The incident caused power disruptions across a significant portion of southern Rapid City in the Black Hills region of South Dakota.
