Bryan Jeffery Westberg, 54, died peacefully at home in Whitewood, S.D., after a short fight with pancreatic cancer, surrounded by his family and Pastor.  Bryan was born June 14th, 1970, in Mobridge, S.D., to Jeff and Julie Westberg. Bryan was baptized in Mobridge and confirmed at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Whitewood, S.D.  He graduated from High School in Aberdeen, S.D., and joined the Army National Guard at the age of 17.  Bryan served for 8 years with the 854th Engineer Company.

Bryan loved the great outdoors and all the adventures in it. He had a love for hunting, whether it was big game elk, moose or bear; or hunting geese and ducks with his faithful companion of nearly 15 years, his yellow lab Zeus. Bryan loved it all.  Bryan’s hunting trips took him to Colorado, Texas, Montana, Wyoming and Alaska. Bryan also had a love for fishing trips. Some of his favorite trips were the fly- in fishing trips to Canada with family, which included his Grandpa John Zwingelberg, his folks, siblings, aunts, uncles and cousins. Whether it was snowmobiling, water skiing, snow skiing, boating or camping, Bryan was the happiest outdoors.

Bryan lived in Cheyenne, Wyoming, for over 20 years, where he was an Engineer for the Union Pacific Railroad, and was the local Chairman for the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen Union. Before becoming an Engineer, Bryan worked for Coca Cola delivering soda, in the timber industry, managed Westberg Sporting Goods and worked for the DM&E Railroad in Rapid City, SD.

Bryan had a great love for his family. He always helped with his niece and nephews; or came home to help his folks out with fencing, or whatever project they needed done. Bryan was the kind of son who almost daily called or texted his mom, if only to ask, what are you doing today? Bryan loved cooking for his family, and like his Grandfather John Z., Bryan always knew of the best places to eat!

To add to his love for family, Bryan’s son Dustin was born in 2006. He was excited to know he was going to be a father! Now his son is grown, married and serving in the United States Air Force. Dustin has made his dad very proud.

Bryan is survived by his son Dustin (Diavian) Yelverton-Westberg, Lackland AFB, Texas, his parents Jeff and Julie Westberg, Whitewood, S.D., his sister Jody Westberg, Whitewood, S.D., his brother Zach (Krissy) Westberg, Whitewood, SD, his sister Jamie Westberg, Deadwood, SD, his nephews Nathan, Rylan and Will Westberg and his niece Abigail Westberg. His maternal grandmother, Audrey Zwingelberg, Whitewood, SD., and numerous Aunts, Uncles and cousins. His girlfriend Amanda Schaffer, Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Bryan was proceeded in death by his paternal grandparents, Glen and Millie Westberg, his maternal grandfather John Zwingelberg and his sister-in-law Anna Westberg. 

Visitation is Monday, April 28 at 9:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Whitewood.

Funeral Services are Monday, April 28 at 10:30 a.m. at the church.

Interment will be in the Whitewood Cemetery at 11:30 a.m.
