STURGIS, S.D. – A Greeley, Colorado robbery suspect who was seen in the Black Hills area earlier this week has been apprehended after a chase in Boulder Canyon Thursday morning.

Meade County Sheriff Pat West says Mark David Daniels was taken into custody following a short pursuit on U.S. Highway 14A between Deadwood and Sturgis.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office says Daniels had robbed a patron at a convenience store in Lead and fled in a stolen red Pontiac Grand Prix.

Police located the vehicle and a pursuit into Boulder Canyon ensued.

Spike strips were deployed at the base of the canyon, however Daniels attempted to evade capture and flee back up the canyon. Law enforcement were able to stop him and he was apprehended near the Boulder Canyon Country Club.

Daniels had been seen earlier in the week in the Keystone area and West says Pennington County authorities had given chase of the suspect on Wednesday.

Daniels is now facing charges in both Lawrence County and Pennington County, where authorities say he drove a vehicle towards a Rapid City Police officer on July 9.

The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office says the arrest marks the conclusion of a 24-hour period in which Daniels evaded capture and committed multiple criminal acts. Authorities say despite the suspect’s dangerous actions, no injuries were reported to law enforcement or bystanders.
