RAPID CITY, S.D. – A massive search effort near Rockerville concluded safely Sunday after an individual reported missing by family members near Boulder Hill was located uninjured, according to the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office.
The extensive search lasted over 18 hours and involved multiple agencies in the Black Hills.
Lt. Casey Kenrick of the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office highlighted the inter-agency cooperation. “Expansive manpower searches like this could not be possible without strong working partnerships,” Kenrick said in a statement. “Today was another example of great cooperation in action.”
Six deputies from the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office led the ground efforts, supported by Pennington County Search and Rescue, the Rockerville Volunteer Fire Department, the South Dakota Highway Patrol, and the U.S. Forest Service – Black Hills National Forest. Responding personnel also made extensive use of drones throughout the operation. The individual was found and confirmed not to be injured.
