RAPID CITY, S.D. – A collision between a bicyclist and a pedestrian in Rapid City, South Dakota, resulted in serious injuries for both individuals on Wednesday afternoon, Sept. 25.
Rapid City police responded to the area of Sioux San Drive and Canyon Lake Road around 3:40 p.m. for the reported crash. Witnesses indicated that a juvenile riding a bicycle on the sidewalk collided with an elderly female pedestrian.
Both the juvenile and the woman were transported to a hospital for treatment of serious injuries sustained in the crash. Authorities noted that the pedestrian’s injuries were considered life-threatening at the time of transport.
The incident is currently under investigation. Police reminded the public that bicyclists operating on sidewalks have an obligation to remain vigilant for other users and must yield the right-of-way to pedestrians. The crash occurred in a well-traveled area of Rapid City near the Black Hills.
