Black Hills Community Theatre concludes its 57th Season with the surprising Everybody by Branden Jacobs-Jenkins. Follow Everybody as they journey through life’s greatest mystery—the meaning of living. Who will complete the journey with Everybody – all the way from life to after-life? This modern riff on the fifteenth-century morality play Everyman humorously and poignantly answers the question: What can we hold onto as we face our ultimate fear and what does it mean to live as a flawed and vulnerable human being? Everybody has a unique twist in that the cast of six “somebodies” don’t know what role they will play each night until the performance has already started. The cast chooses their roles by lottery during every performance, making every night a completely new experience with different actors taking on different parts in various combinations.

Everybody is directed by Heidi Dehn, who is a seasoned actor and stage manager in the area and previously directed a staged reading of Everybody for BHCT in 2023. Dehn says about the show, “Everybody is a delightful reflection of the journey of humanity to self-acceptance which forces you to consider your own role in the world and how you view it. It is rare to get to work on a show that is so humorous and delightful while still being real and sincere to the struggles of being a human.”

Like all BHCT productions, the cast and crew for Everybody is made up of talented volunteers from within our community. The show is Assistant Directed by BHCT’s Education and Outreach Director Dave DeChristopher. The cast of local performers, who will be surprised each night to learn which role they are playing, includes Natalie Gronlund, Rachel Lindsay, Lynne Mazzone, Wynter Miller, Estel Pearce, Laura Savage and Jonah Vasquez. This modern parable for adults contains adult situations and adult language.

Black Hills Community Theatre (BHCT) produces five Mainstage shows, two youth productions, an annual Holiday Fundraiser, a Play Reading Series, plus workshops, special events and summer theater camps. The mission of BHCT is to collaborate with our community to entertain, educate, and foster growth in the arts with a vision to serve as a creative and educational home that is inclusive, transformative, and inspirational for the entire community and the values of community engagement, inclusivity, innovation and creativity.
