The Badlands Sabres and Great Falls Americans wrapped up their two-game weekend series in thrilling fashion on Saturday night.
The first period belonged to Great Falls, as they struck twice to take a 2–0 lead heading into the intermission.
Midway through the second period, the Sabres found their spark. Dayton Niedert buried a shot past the Americans’ goaltender, with assists from Wyatt Pink and Peyton Kostad, cutting the deficit to 2–1.
Momentum swung the Sabres’ way as they netted back-to-back goals to seize the lead. Wyatt Pink scored off feeds from Niedert and Gavin Marx, followed shortly after by Justin Reams, assisted by Nicklas Bacskai and Rhylan Olson, giving Badlands a 3–2 advantage.
Great Falls answered with an equalizer late in regulation, knotting the game at 3–3 with eight minutes left to play. Neither side could break through in overtime, sending the contest to a decisive shootout.
In the shootout, both teams came up empty in the first round. The Americans capitalized in the second, while the Sabres couldn’t convert. The third round ended scoreless, sealing the win for Great Falls, 4–3.
The Sabres return to action next weekend with a home-and-away series against the Gillette Wild. They’ll be back at the Roosevelt Ice Arena on Saturday, September 20, 2025, with puck drop at 7:05 p.m.
