OELRICHS, S.D. – Authorities have identified two people who died after crashing a pickup that fled the scene of a traffic stop on Highway 18 near Oelrichs Monday night.

The highway patrol says 28-year-old Kyle Daniels of Rapid City was driving the truck that failed to negotiate a curve at mile marker 73 and left the roadway. The pickup ended up rolling several times.

Daniels, as well as a passenger, 23-year-old Nolan Gage Warrior, Jr. of Oglala, sustained fatal injuries. A third passenger in the vehicle suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The incident began as a traffic stop when the patrol pulled over the vehicle along Highway 18. While the initial driver was being given a D.U.I. test, Daniels slid into the driver’s seat and fled eastbound.

The South Dakota Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
