RAPID CITY, S.D. – Authorities have identified the two people on board a Piper 22-150 that crashed west of New Underwood on Monday, July 28.
The Pennington County Sheriff’s Office says 35-year-old Martin Zorilla Nunez of Box Elder was a passenger in the plane, and died on scene from injuries sustained in the crash.
The pilot, 47-year-old Isaac Malson, also of Box Elder, sustained life-threatening injuries and was air lifted to Monument Health hospital in Rapid City. He remained in critical condition this week.
The crash happened just after 6:00 a.m. Monday east of 229th Street near New Underwood, SD.

The Federal Aviation Administration is investigating the incident on behalf of the National Transportation Safety Board.
Agencies that responded to this incident include the Pennington County Sheriff’s Office, South Dakota Highway Patrol, New Underwood Volunteer Fire Department, Rapid Valley Volunteer Fire Department, Rapid City Fire Department, Pennington County Emergency Management, Pennington County Search and Rescue, Black Hills Life Flight, Federal Aviation Administration, National Transportation Safety Board, and South Dakota Game Fish & Parks.
