PIERRE, S.D. – The highway patrol has identified the man who died when a train struck their pick-up truck in Sanborn County.
The patrol says Alejandro Mackenzie Flores from Texas was the driver of a Ford F350 that was stuck on the tracks near the intersection of 399th Avenue and 237th Street.
The truck was unable to get off the tracks before being struck by a Burlington/Northern/Santa Fe train.
A passenger in the pickup-up was identified as Andrew Murray Lacy, also from Texas.
Flores died at the scene. Lacy was taken to a Mitchell hospital with minor injuries. Two engineers on the train, Brian Michael Parker and Jerett Wilson were not injured.
