J.J. McCarthy’s rough home debut: What went wrong for the Vikings?

Montgomery, Meidroth HRs, Baldwin, Tauchman RBI doubles lead White Sox past Twins 6-5

Colson Montgomery and Chase Meidroth homered and Brooks Baldwin and Mike Tauchman hit consecutive run-scoring doubles as the Chicago White Sox rallied to beat the Minnesota Twins 6-5. The White Sox trailed 5-4 in the eighth inning before Baldwin and Tauchman hit back-to-back RBI doubles off Justin Topa (1-4). Kyle Alexander (5-13), the sixth of seven pitchers for the White Sox, earned the win. Jordan Leasure retired all four batters he faced to earn his fifth save of the season. Royce Lewis homered and Byron Buxton drove in two runs for Minnesota.

Missing Clark, Fever soar past Lynx 74-59 to win WNBA Commissioner’s Cup

Natasha Howard had 16 points, 12 rebounds and four assists as the Indiana Fever defeated the Minnesota Lynx 74-59 in the WNBA Commissioner’s Cup final. The Fever were missing All-Star guard Caitlin Clark, who has been sidelined since June 24 with a strained groin. That didn’t slow down the Fever, who overcame an early 13-point deficit with balanced scoring and a stout defensive performance against the team with the best record in the league. Minnesota had its worst offensive performance of the season, shooting 34.9% from the floor and making 4 of 16 3-pointers after averaging 9.4 3-pointers this season.
