Bills’ James Cook has TD motivations ahead of game vs. Falcons in Georgia homecoming Monday night

For all his production during his college days at Georgia, Buffalo Bills running back James Cook was reminded of never scoring a touchdown in three SEC championship game appearances at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Cook plans to rectify that when Buffalo travels to play the Falcons in their home stadium on Monday night. The fifth-year player has established himself as a key threat in balancing the Bills’ Josh Allen-led offense with five touchdowns this season. Meantime, Buffalo’s defense will have its hands full in attempting to contain Atlanta’s lead running back Bijan Robinson.

The Bills are undefeated no more after beating themselves in loss to rival Patriots

Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills beat themselves by committing three turnovers in a 23-20 loss to AFC East rival New England Patriots. Allen committed two turnovers in losing a fumble and throwing an interception. Wide receiver Keon Coleman also lost a fumble as Buffalo dropped to 4-1. The loss ended the Bills regular-season home winning streak at 14, one short of matching the team record. Buffalo joined the Eagles in being the NFL’s final two unbeaten teams to lose on Sunday after Philadelphia lost to Denver.

Drake Maye leads Patriots to 23-20 win over Bills, leaving NFL without an unbeaten team

Drake Maye led the Patriots on a 37-yard drive to set up rookie Andy Borregales’ 52-yard field goal with 15 seconds left, and New England beat the Buffalo Bills 23-20, leaving the NFL without an undefeated team five weeks into the season. Stefon Diggs had 10 catches for 146 yards for the Patriots in his first game at Buffalo since the Bills traded him to Houston in April of 2024. Rhamondre Stevenson rushed for two touchdowns, the second one set up by Diggs’ 32-yard reception. Maye went 22 of 30 for 273 yards. The Patriots have a winning record through five games for the first time since 2019.

New-look Patriots under coach Mike Vrabel face big test in preparing to play AFC East-leading Bills

Mike Vrabel acknowledges the shift in the AFC East rivalry between New England and Buffalo since his time as a Patriots linebacker. The Patriots’ first-year coach fully appreciates the challenge New England faces in traveling to play the AFC-leading Bills on Sunday night. Where the Patriots once dominated the Bills during Vrabel’s playing days, Buffalo is now the team to beat. The Bills are five-time defending division champions and have won 14 straight home games. Patriots receiver Stefon Diggs, making his first trip back to Buffalo since being traded, calls it a sentimental return.

Josh Allen’s 3 TD passes and Terrel Bernard’s pick secure Bills’ 31-21 win over spiraling Dolphins

Josh Allen threw three touchdown passes and Terrel Bernard intercepted Tua Tagovailoa with three minutes left to secure the Buffalo Bills’ 31-21 win over the Miami Dolphins. James Cook had 108 yards rushing and a 2-yard TD as the Bills continued their dominance of Miami. Buffalo has won seven straight and 14 of the past 15, including playoffs, against its AFC East rival. The Dolphins fell to 0-3 and coach Mike McDaniel will likely face more questions about his job security. Allen finished 22 of 28 for 213 yards and improved his record to 14-2 over Miami.

Bills rule out Ed Oliver against the Jets because of an ankle injury he suffered at practice

Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott has ruled out defensive tackle Ed Oliver from playing at the New York Jets this weekend. The announcement Friday leaves the team thin at the position and without a starter who made a game-changing impact in a season-opening win over the Baltimore Ravens. McDermott said Oliver hurt his ankle after being stepped on in practice on Wednesday. The coach didn’t reveal the nature of the injury or timetable for Oliver’s return. The Bills face a short turnaround next week in hosting the Miami Dolphins on Thursday night following their game at New York on Sunday.

Josh Allen rallies Bills for 16 points in last 4 minutes to stun Ravens 41-40 in prime-time thriller

Josh Allen led Buffalo to three scores in the final four minutes, the last a 32-yard field goal by Matt Prater as time expired, and the Bills rallied from 15 points down to stun the Baltimore Ravens 41-40 in a season-opening thriller. Buffalo scored 16 points in the last 3:56, with Prater’s kick capping a nine-play, 66-yard drive over the final 1:26. Allen went 33 of 46 for 394 yards with two touchdowns and scored two more rushing in a matchup of the NFL’s past two MVPs. He spoiled a strong performance by Lamar Jackson, the 2023 MVP who threw for two scores and ran for another.

Bills running back James Cook ends contract standoff by agreeing to a four-year deal

Bills running back James Cook has ended his contract standoff by signing a four-year deal, Buffalo general manager Brandon Beane said. Cook’s deal will pay him $48 million over the four years, two people with knowledge of the agreement confirmed to The Associated Press. The contract includes $30 million in guaranteed money, one of the people said. They spoke to the AP on condition of anonymity because financial details of the contract have not been announced. The deal comes a day after Cook ended his weeklong standoff by returning to practice. Cook was the NFL’s co-leader with 16 touchdowns rushing last season.

Bills RB James Cook resumes practicing after weeklong ‘hold-in’ as part of contract standoff

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook resumed practicing, ending — temporarily, at least — his “hold-in” as part of a contract standoff that began on Aug. 3. Cook took the field in uniform and participated at the start of practice after missing four straight sessions last week — the last two in which the fourth-year player failed to make an appearance on the sideline. Speaking before practice, coach Sean McDermott referred to Cook’s return as a step in the right direction. Cook, who co-led the NFL with 16 rushing touchdowns last season, is seeking a contract extension in the final year of his rookie deal.

Running back James Cook’s contract standoff with Bills reaches 3rd practice

The Buffalo Bills and James Cook are in a contract standoff, with the running back skipping his third consecutive training camp practice. Both sides are uncertain about how long this will continue. Negotiations have stalled, and it’s unclear who will make the next move based on what people on each side of discussions told The Associated Press over the past two days. The people spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because the talks are private. Cook is seeking a deal in the range of $11 to $12.5 million in guaranteed money, but the Bills are unsure how this fits into their salary cap.

Bills GM Beane has no timeline on contract standoff with Cook after RB skips 2nd day of practice

Buffalo Bills general manager Brandon Beane told The Associated Press that he isn’t sure how long the contract standoff with James Cook will last after the running back declined to participate in practice for a second straight day. Cook wore a white hat, red Bills pullover and blue shorts upon briefly entering the practice field, before ducking into a portable bathroom. He then left the field, exiting through the trainer’s tent and did not re-appear during the two-hour session. This marks the second day Cook has not participated in practice in the fourth-year player’s next step in escalating his bid to extend the final year of his contract.

Bills mounting list of injuries grows to 15 players, with additions of WRs Shakir and Palmer

Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott put aside his concerns over the team’s growing injury list, which now includes starting receiver Khalil Shakir, by saying he has no choice but to move forward in returning to training camp. McDermott opened his pre-practice news conference by listing 15 members of Buffalo’s 91-player roster as either being limited or not practicing. Shakir was added in being listed week to week with a high ankle sprain after he was hurt Friday. Also injured Friday were receiver Josh Palmer, one of the team’s prized offseason free agent additions, and linebacker Shaq Thompson. Both sustained groin injuries.

Bills quarterback Josh Allen shows off new ring following marriage to actor Hailee Steinfeld

Josh Allen’s broad grin was familiar. The wedding band on the quarterback’s ring finger was brand new. The Buffalo Bills star is a newlywed after marrying actor/singer Hailee Steinfeld in Southern California on May 31. In attempting to keep the focus on football, Allen had little to say about this wedding day. He finally opened up when assessing a four-month stretch that included him being named NFL MVP and signing a lucrative contract extension. He called Steinfeld his best friend, and said she makes everything easier.

Buffalo Bills RB James Cook in attendance for team’s mandatory practice amid contract concerns

Buffalo Bills running back James Cook put aside his contract concerns — and avoided the potential of being fined — by attending the start of the team’s three-day mandatory series of practices. Coach Sean McDermott says “I respect his decision to be here and be amongst the team.” Cook’s attendance comes after he went public with his desire to negotiate a contract extension while entering the fourth and final year of his rookie deal. Cook skipped Buffalo’s six previous spring practices and workout sessions, all of which were voluntary. Cook was selected by Buffalo in the second round of the 2022 draft out of Georgia.

Bills edge rusher Bosa sidelined by calf injury. Running back Cook absent from voluntary practice

Buffalo Bills coach Sean McDermott says edge rusher Joey Bosa is expected to miss all of the team’s spring practices because of a calf injury as the team opened its first voluntary session. Bosa was hurt while working out with the team last week, and McDermott expects the veteran to be ready for the start of training camp in late July. The Bills signed Bosa to a one-year, $12.6 million contract in March in the hopes that he can reestablish himself as one of the NFL’s premier pass rushers. Also, McDermott said running back James Cook was the only player not in attendance. Cook is seeking an extension to his contract, which expires after this upcoming season.
