Despite Juan Soto’s snub for NL squad, the Mets insist ‘he’s an All-Star for us’

The New York Mets consider Juan Soto to be a bona fide All-Star, regardless of the snub he received from those who selected the NL squad for the Midsummer Classic on July 15. Soto, in his first year with the Mets, has performed well enough to earn the respect of his manager and teammates. In their opinion, he’s deserving of a place in the All-Star Game. Manager Carlos Mendoza says, “He’s an All-Star for us.” Soto drove in the winning run with a sharp single on the first pitch of the 10th inning. That capped a night in which he went 3 for 5 to raise his batting average to .269 with 21 homers and 52 RBIs.

Morton’s solid start propels Orioles past White Sox 3-2 for three-game sweep

Charlie Morton pitched effectively into the seventh inning, and the Baltimore Orioles beat Adrian Houser and the Chicago White Sox 3-2 for their first series sweep of the season. Ramón Urías had two hits and drove in a run for the last-place Orioles, who limited Chicago to five runs in the three games. Baltimore’s three-game winning streak matches its longest of the year. Mike Tauchman homered for the White Sox, who have lost six of seven and fell to 6-26 on the road. Morton gave up one unearned run and six hits over 6 2/3 innings.
