CJ Carr hopes to add to family’s football legacy after winning starting QB job at No. 6 Notre Dame
CJ Carr’s grandfather, Lloyd, led college football’s winningest program, Michigan, to the 1997 national championship. Now the second-year quarterback hopes to win his own title — at one of the nation’s most prestigious programs, Notre Dame. Fighting Irish coach Marcus Freeman selected Carr as the starter for next weekend’s marquee season-opening matchup between No. 6 Notre Dame and No. 10 Miami. Carr outdueled Kenny Minchey for the job. Carr replaces Riley Leonard, who is now playing in the NFL. Leonard’s top backup, Steve Angeli, transferred to Syracuse in the spring.
