Mason Heintschel throws for 321 yards, two TDs to Desmond Reid in Pitt’s upset of No. 25 Florida St.

Mason Heintschel threw for 310 yards and connected with Desmond Reid on a pair of touchdown passes as Pittsburgh defeated No. 25 Florida State 34-31. A true freshman, Heintschel completed 20 of 28 passes and tossed a pair of second-quarter interceptions. But he has surpassed 300 passing yards in both of his starts, building off a rout of Boston College last week with a road upset of the Seminoles. Reid had eight catches for 155 yards and 10 carries for 38 yards for Pittsburgh (4-2, 2-1 Atlantic Coast Conference). Tommy Castellanos completed 16 of 23 passes for 245 yards for Florida State (3-3, 0-3).

Former coach Jimbo Fisher makes a tearful return to Florida Sate’s campus

Jimbo Fisher was brought to tears while returning to Florida State’s campus for the first time since resigning to take the Texas A&M coaching job in 2017. Fisher, now an ACC Network analyst, was wildly cheered at the start of the league’s pregame show outside Doak Campbell Stadium. He turned in his chair, did the tomahawk chop to the crowd of garnet-clad fans and started to cry. He said it “bring tears to my eyes.” Fisher coached at Florida State for 10 years, first as an offensive coordinator and then as head-coach-in-waiting before taking over for legend Bobby Bowden in 2010. He won a national title in 2013.

No. 3 Miami could strengthen playoff resume with a win at No. 18 Florida State
