Managers miffed at offshore sports betting on Little League World Series

At least a couple of offshore bookmakers are offering odds on games at the Little League World Series. Team managers, and Little League itself, are not pleased. In news conferences throughout the Little League World Series, U.S. team managers have voiced their displeasure with gambling on their games — players at the tournament top out at 12 years old. Little League International also released a statement last week denouncing sports betting on youth competition.

Top accessory this year at the Little League World Series? A bat that looks like sour gummy worms

It’s not an ice-cream cone. It’s not an Italian rainbow cookie. It’s the baseball bat being used at the Little League World Series. Easton’s 2026 Hype Fire USA Bat with the neon green grip and pink-and-neon yellow barrel is hard to miss at the plate. And the players love them. They get the bat when they first arrive at the Little League compound in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. Pennsylvania manager Michael Shaw says he left it up to the players which bats they wanted to use. He says, in his words: “You know, a great color for 12-year-old kids – sour gummy worms.”

Slugger leads South Carolina as blowouts are the rule in early days of Little League World Series

South Carolina snuck into the Little League World Series with a five-run rally over the defending champs. But the club from Irmo is showing it belongs at the tournament, thanks in part to slugger-pitcher Joe Guiletti. Joe threw 3 1/3 hitless innings when South Carolina made its world series debut Thursday against Braintree, Massachusetts. With the bases loaded in the second inning, he also smoked a line drive to left-center field that cleared the fence for a grand slam, giving his club an 8-0 lead. South Carolina went on to win 13-0 as blowouts and shutouts were common in opening games of the tournament.

Alone and 2,200 miles from home, Venezuela shuts out Puerto Rico 5-0 at Little League World Series

It took a lot for Venezuela to the Little League World Series, but on Wednesday it made the playing baseball part look easy. Cardenales Little League from Barquisimeto shut out Puerto Rico 5-0. Cardenales won all five of its regional tournament games, outscoring opponents 46-6 to become the Latin America representative to the LLWS. But in the wake of President Donald Trump’s travel bans and restrictions affecting 19 countries, the team needed a special exemption from the U.S. State Department and a sign-off from Secretary of State Marco Rubio after visas were initially denied. Venezuela’s senior team, players who are up to 16, which was supposed to compete in South Carolina, last month was unable to get the exemption and was denied entry to the U.S.

The Little League World Series has had its share of drama before even getting to Williamsport

The Little League World Series features players from Venezuela who got visa exemptions to make the trip to central Pennsylvania, an American team that knocked off the defending champ and once-dominant Taiwan trying for a title run. It all starts with a new ESPN film to get youth baseball fans excited for the annual tournament. Airing the night before the LLWS begins Wednesday, ESPN is releasing the Little League documentary “Big Dreams: Little League World Series 2024.”
