RAPID CITY, S.D. – A Rapid City man was arrested Monday evening on multiple charges including driving under the influence and resisting arrest following a crash near Interstate-90.

According to a police report, officers were dispatched around 6:45 p.m. on Sept. 23 to a hit-and-run crash near the intersection of North Lacrosse Street and I-90. Responding officers found a sedan that had left the roadway along the eastbound on-ramp.

A bystander identified the driver, who was walking southbound on Lacrosse Street. Police made contact with 40-year-old Joshua Holmes, who was identified as the suspect. Officers noted Holmes showed signs of alcohol impairment and was in possession of an open alcohol container.

As officers attempted to detain him, Holmes reportedly resisted. An officer displayed a Taser, and Holmes then complied. He was arrested and transported to the Pennington County Jail.

Holmes faces charges of DUI (2nd offense), leaving the scene of an accident, resisting arrest, driving without a valid license, open container in public, and no proof of insurance. The incident highlights law enforcement efforts to combat impaired driving in the Black Hills and throughout South Dakota.
